The
DuPage Center for Independent Living is pleased to sponsor
our 10th annual Visually Impaired Awareness Day. This event,
open to anyone residing in DuPage County who is blind or
visually impaired, their families and friends and anyone else
interested in attending will take place on Wednesday, August 11
from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s (IIT)
Rice campus, 201 East Loop Road, Wheaton, Illinois.
This event brings individuals with visual impairments and those
closest to them together with vendors of products and services
which can improve their quality of life. Everything will be on
display, from computers and personal data assistants adapted for
use by people with visual impairments to information about
educational services and programs and support groups. We are
particularly excited to announce that there will be at least one
vendor displaying an accessible voting machine which will enable
someone with a visual impairment to go to the polls on election
day and cast his or her ballot independently just as voters who
can see are able to do. Last year, some 27 vendors exhibited
their wares during this event.
The IIT Rice campus is located about a mile North of Butterfield
Road on East Loop. There will be ample parking in front of the
building, with all events taking place just inside the main
entrance. Volunteers will be available to assist those attending
to view all of the exhibits if needed.
We’re excited about this year’s event and encourage anyone
interested to attend. Please give us a call if you have
questions or need further information.
